Valencia's Summer 2026: Two Anchors Are Now Fighting for Your Saturday Night

For most of the last decade, a Valencia Saturday in July had one obvious shape. You packed a blanket, drove to Central Park, and let a tribute band handle the rest. The mall was where you went when the concert was over or the weather turned. That order is changing this summer, and if you live here, it's worth understanding why before you plan the next eight weekends.

The thesis, stated plainly

Valencia now has two competing evening anchors instead of one. Central Park still owns Saturday nights from 7:00 p.m. onward. Valencia Town Center, under Centennial's ownership since 2023, is spending the summer converting itself from a shopping mall into a dining and entertainment destination that wants the hours from 5:00 p.m. to closing. For the first time, residents have to actually choose. The rest of this post is the map for making that choice.

What just opened, and what it actually replaces

The single biggest change to the Valencia dining map this spring happened at River Oaks Shopping Center on Magic Mountain Parkway. Yard House opened its doors on Sunday, April 19, taking over the site where Mimi's Cafe used to sit. The old building was demolished and rebuilt from scratch for the new tenant, which means this is not a repaint. It is a full replacement of a family-brunch anchor with a late-night draft-beer anchor, and it changes what the River Oaks corner offers after 8:00 p.m.

CAVA also landed in Valencia recently, giving the fast-casual Mediterranean category a foothold it did not have before. If you have been driving to the West Valley for a bowl, you no longer need to.

At the mall itself, Centennial announced a wave of 10 new openings on April 30. A handful are already welcoming guests, and several marquee names are scheduled to debut this summer. The full lineup:

• Bushfire Kitchen — from-scratch American comfort food
• Bacio di Latte — Italian-style gelato
• Panini Kabob Grill — scratch-made Mediterranean, kabobs, paninis, salads
• Slice House by Tony Gemignani — New York, Detroit, Grandma, and Sicilian pizza styles
• Wafflecomb — Hong Kong-style bubble waffles with soft-serve
• Pharmacy Boardshop — Southern California skate brand around since 1997
• Madison Reed — hair color bar
• J David expansion — menswear and custom tailoring
• Pandora expansion and a renovated Lululemon

Read that list the way a resident should read it. Three of those are dessert or gelato concepts, two are Mediterranean, and one is a pizza operation from a named chef with a national following. That is a deliberate portfolio, not a random casting call. Centennial is aiming at the "quick dinner then something else" occasion, which is the exact occasion Central Park has owned for 36 summers.

What's still coming, and the date you actually need to remember

The real headline addition, Round1 Bowling & Arcade, is not opening this summer. The 125,000-square-foot venue is going into the former Sears anchor at the southeast end of the property, and the current estimate is early 2027. When it does open, it will include Spo-cha, an all-you-can-play sports and amusement zone with batting cages, trampolines, and roller skating, plus YUU Japanese Food Hall, a curated set of 14 Japanese restaurants under one roof. General manager Michael de Leon has called Round1 the first step in the transformation of Valencia Town Center, which is a fair description of a 125,000-square-foot bet.

For summer 2026, that means the mall's play-and-eat pitch is still incomplete. The dining side is filling in fast. The entertainment anchor is a year away. Plan accordingly.

Central Park still wins Saturday, and here is the schedule

Concerts in the Park returns for its 36th year, presented by Logix Federal Credit Union. Every Saturday from July 11 through August 29, food trucks open at 5:00 p.m. and the music starts at 7:00 p.m. at Central Park, 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, on Fields 7 and 8. Admission is free.

Two practical notes that separate people who have been going for years from people who are new to it. First, you cannot reserve seating with tape, stakes, or rope. Canopies and umbrellas are welcome before the show but have to come down by 7:00 p.m. Second, if you would rather not fight for parking, the city runs a bike valet and there is a designated rideshare pickup zone. Santa Clarita Transit and Go! Santa Clarita both serve the park.

The opening-night food truck count is expected to be more than half a dozen, which is the closest thing Valencia has to a rotating summer restaurant scene. If you want to sample the trucks without committing to a band you do not care about, arrive at 5:00 p.m., eat, and leave before the set starts. Nothing in the rules says you have to stay for the music.

The July 4 wrinkle

The Fourth falls on a Saturday in 2026, and this is where the two anchors briefly cooperate instead of competing. The city's fireworks show launches from Valencia Town Center at 9:15 p.m., with the soundtrack broadcast live on KHTS AM 1220. If you plan to eat at one of the new mall tenants that night, expect the parking structures to fill early. If you plan to watch from a distance, the sightlines from the higher ground west of the center are generally the least crowded option.

How to actually schedule the next eight weekends

Here is the framework worth borrowing. Central Park is a fixed asset. The lineup is set, the hours are set, and the experience does not change week to week. Valencia Town Center is a moving asset this summer. New tenants are opening in phases through 2026 and 2027, which means the mall you visit in August will not be the mall you visited in June.

That argues for using them in opposite ways. Treat the concert schedule as the calendar backbone. Pick the four or five Saturdays whose tribute act you actually care about, block those, and stop thinking about them. Then use the mall as your discovery variable. Every three or four weeks, swap in whichever tenant has just opened. Bacio di Latte after a Yard House dinner in July is a different evening than Slice House and Wafflecomb in August, and both are different from whatever the mall looks like in October when the next phase lands.

A note on what this changes for residents

For years the mall was a place you took out-of-town guests when you had run out of other ideas. That framing is on its way out. By the time Round1 opens in early 2027, the entertainment side will match what the dining side is already building this summer, and Valencia Town Center will start pulling weekday evenings the way Central Park has always pulled Saturdays. If you live within a five-minute drive of either one, you are on the winning side of that shift. If you have been telling yourself you would go to the mall "when there was something worth going for," this is the summer to test whether that is still true.
